Who Are You Wearing?
shareOctober 18, 2024
If you’ve ever seen an awards show or big event with a red carpet, you’ve probably heard a reporter ask one of the attendees this question, “Who are you wearing?”
Designers specifically create and give clothes to these people just for that moment – to hear them say their name on TV in front of millions.
Two weeks from today, many will participate in Halloween parties and activities where they will delight in costuming themselves to look like someone or something else even to the point of wearing a mask of their face (which can be pretty entertaining).
Read this recent relevant Daily Meditations devotional that I receive by email, based on Colossians 3:12-13. The gist is our responsibility to “wear the Gospel” with compassion, humility, kindness, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing, and forgiveness.
Scripture also challenges us to be clothed in humility to help us be subject one to another. Here is an excellent blog post on the hard truth of Forgiveness.
Of course, the greatest truth is that when we are in Christ, we are clothed with His righteousness. This is the only reason any of us have any hope of dwelling in God’s presence in eternity.
We often sing a song, “His Robes for Mine” which begins with these lyrics:
His robes for mine, O wonderful exchange
Clothed in my sin, Christ suffered ‘neath God’s rage
Draped in His righteousness, I’m justified
In Christ I live, for in my place He died
There is no more important truth to be learned in this life, no more humbling thought:
When we take the name of Christ, we are responsible to wear His Gospel message – to wear Him – well. Who are you wearing?
