KINDERGARTEN
BIBLE
K5 Bible class is designed to teach the students to live the Bible as well as know it. Using the Bob Jones text, Bible Truths for Christian Schools, students are taught that the Bible is the final authority and all accounts are fact. Lessons emphasize God's dealing with His people and the need for salvation. Character traits are brought to life through application stories which encourage Christlikeness in students and teach them Christian obedience after salvation. Memory verses are introduced throughout the lessons and many are committed to memory. A discussion time to encourage a growing desire to know God and His Word begins and completes each lesson.
PHONICS
K5 children learn to read through the use of phonics. As soon as the short sounds of the vowels and the sounds for only three consonants are introduced, they are able to sound out their first words. Later, they learn to read many more words including those with two vowels and words that contain letter combinations like sh and ar. Their reading vocabulary naturally grows with each new sound learned.
NUMBERS
Students learn to count and recognize numbers 1 through 100. Addition concepts are taught up through the sum of 10, and beginning subtraction concepts are introduced. Students learn to count by tens and fives, and learn to work with telling time and counting money.
WRITING
Manuscript writing is taught in a program that correlates with the phonics program. As students learn to recognize the letters of the alphabet and learn what sounds the letters say, they also learn to write them. Later, they learn to write blends, words and sentences.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Students learn visual perception skills, motor coordination and listening/thinking skills.
ACTIVITY TIME
During the first semester, students enjoy music, art, and a unit on Community Helpers. They receive an introduction to American history and geography using the book, America: Our Great Country. They also get a chance to meet Children Around the World and learn about how people live in other countries. Second semester adds an introduction to science using a book called God's World.
LANGUAGE ENRICHMENT
Children learn about positional words and opposites, rhyming words and analogies, drama and poetry. They also share their own experiences and ideas during "Show and Tell" time.
CLASSROOM HABITS
The Character Development Visuals and Health and Safety Visuals teach good classroom and health habits to eager five year olds. The lessons aid in producing orderly classrooms needed for effective learning.
